Here's a link to the Facebook event post for the protest that was planned on Friday at 3 p.m. at Sunset Junction. The event was canceled in response to news that broke on The Som Show tonight that music is OK at The Swamp, according to its landlord.
The Facebook event post reads:
"This is a protest/demonstration in response to the malicious harassment of Mojo Kaler and the Swamp by Sunset Jct owner, Joe Crosby. Crosby is attempting to end live music at The Swamp. This protest/demonstration is in no way an attack on the work of promoter Patrick Kendrick an the shows he currently has booked at the Sunset Jct. This is just a chance to support Mojo for all he has done for local music in Spokane. I'm encouraging everyone to use humor and mockery over anger and hate at this function. Have fun with it. The theme will be to dress up as a Swamp creature of your choice. Other dimensions of this demonstration may be suggested and created on this page between now and Friday. Swamp Power!!"
Patrick Kendrick of Platform Booking, who handles live music at Sunset, posted this statement on the event post on Facebook:
"I am still in the dark on this and will consider myself there until I see the lease, or at least the sections regarding the dispute. Platform had/has plans to develop co-promoted shows between the Swamp & Sunset. Rickshaws where one idea (thanks Ben). This comes to a shock to me as well. Crosby's are saying it is a safety issue and if something tragic did happen due to over capacity or live music they are also responsible. Basically I am going to let the dust settle and hope the truth between the Joe's comes out. I have postponed my shows this weekend (WED is still on w/ DJ's Likes Girls and Darko) and plan on making a decision to stay at Sunset or not towards the end of Feb. Thank you to everyone on 'both sides' of this issue and for understanding that Platform had nothing to do with the loss of live music at the Swamp. This situation proves a strong local live music community and that is why I love what I do."
