Som Show Apprentice Taylor is attending Sasquatch! Music Festival and blogging (or rather texting me about) it here. Here's Tay's review of the first day at the Squatch:
We got there a little later in the day, around 1:30ish. By the time we arrived there was barely a line, and the woman on guard simply looked at us and said: "Drugs?" Nope." "Alcohol?" "Nope." "Weapons?" "Uh,no," and she went on from there. She let us through without even touching us or any of our bags.
We first headed towards Fools Gold at the yeti stage (formerly known as the wookie stage) and caught a glimpse of theend of their set . They were very easy to dance to and had a bit of a worldly spin to them. After that Nurses came on, a band I'd seen a couple times before. They are a two man band of Animal Collective wannabe's from Portland.
After that we headed over to the Bigfoot stage, where we impatiently waited for Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, who came on about twenty minutes late and then when they finally showed up we saw Edward, who looked like a cross between Jesus, Charles Manson and the reggae artist Alborosie. (During the set a crowd of people dressed in all gold made their way to he front in celebration on their friends golden birthday. At about the same time, a large man was riding on the shoulders of an even larger man. The guy on top was steering him towards the front yelling, "Everyone get out of my way! I need to meet the lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies!" )
Then we went to Broken Social Scene, and after the first song, the lead singer did a shoutout to a guy in the audience who had passed out. He told the crowd that it was a good sign, and that he would wake up a better man. We later found out that the kid who passed out was our friend Karl, and when we saw him afterwards he was far from a better man.
Mike Snow then played on the Bigfoot stage, though my mom felt like he should have been on the mainstage since there were so many people. It seemed like that was just how huge the Bigfoot stage was, if you weren't right up front you couldn't hear or see Jack shit.
Later we saw Why?, then followed that up with a fantastic Vampire Weekend and the beginning of Deadmau5 (said like dead mouse, supposedly). Overall, our first day was a success, and I look forward to see what the rest of the weekend has is store.
