Hot off of cyberspace, The Som Show presents a brand spankin' new mp3 from Spokane's favorite R&B and soul band, Rough Congress.
And this ain't your average release from the boys in Rough Congress, which is highlighted by smooth pimpdaddy frontman Brandon O'Neil and icy frost chops guitarist Jamie Maker, along with keyboardist Chris White, drummer Aaron Saye, and bassist Jake Barr.
This new track, "Coals to Newcastle," is extraordinary. It enlists the help of one of Spokane's biggest names in music in recent memory, Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge, The Mayfield Four), who plays a silky guitar solo; additional guitar noodling from Mike Hamilton; and tenor sax work by Brett Dechenne; and I'm a sucker for the hand claps.
White stepped up on guitar as well as drums to fill in for Saye, who's new baby girl Mia was on her way into the world during tracking. White also wrote "Coals to Newcastle" in collaboration with O'Neill.
Check it out in the mp3 player in the artist profile panel in the top right corner. Leave a comment and let the band know what you think.
There's also a pretty educational Youtube video of Myles Kennedy in a 1990 guitar contest for anyone who isn't familiar with the Spokane singer and slinger. ;)
