Local singer-songwriter royalty Karli Fairbanks has set a new standard for the increasingly rare art of crafting a complete body of work.

Fairbanks new album, "The Breaking of Our Days" is a jaw-dropping 10-song followup to her outstanding debut, "Bitter Blue."

"The Breaking of Our Days," finds Fairbanks using the full spectrum of colors, in both emotion and instrumentation.

"Some Other Plan" is lonseome and hopeful, backed by an all-star cast of vocalists (Joel Smith, Jared Dunn, Henry Nordstrom and Caroline Fowler). "Forms of Getting Beat" pulls off sad and dancey without contradiction. Fairbanks' brother, Zac, plays one-man orchestra on guitar, glock and piano during the lilting and lighthearted "Needle and Thread." Fairbanks closes the album showing her own dexterity on "Hidden," laying hymnotic multi-layered vocals over lifts on piano, vibraphone and organ.

In terms of production, musicianship and songwriting, the stars have aligned for "The Breaking of Our Days."

But don't just take my word for it.
