This might be a little on the beaten path, but jazz fans should might think about going back to school.

Shadle High School, that is, for the re-opening ceremony tonight with a performance by the Bub Curnow Big Band featuring bebop drummer Ed Shaughnessy, who played with Doc Severinsen's band on the "Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."

Bub Curnow's band is filled with upward of 18 top-shelf players, many of whom are also jazz teachers, composers and arrangers, some of the most talented jazzers in the area.

The festivities kick off tonight at 7 p.m. at Shadle Park High School, 4327 N. Ash. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for SPS students under 18, available at Shadle Park High SChool and Spokane Public Schools administration building, 200 N. Bernard.
