Here's this week's top five club picks from The Som Show, as appears in the Entertainment Spokane weekly e-newsletter (sign up).
Ghostland Observatory - Funk, punk, electronica, electro, rock, pop -- Ghostland Observatory manages to do a little of a lot of things when this duo gets together. But on their latest album Ghostland Observatory does as little as possible, going for a maximized minimalist approach. "Codename: Rondo" still punches through with catchy, albiet sparse, momentum and various obscurely interesting sounds. Ghostland Observatory pulls your dance card at 8:30 p.m. tonight, May 18, at The Knitting Factory Concert House, 919 W. Sprague Ave. Cost: $20 in advance, $22 day of show, through www.ticketfly.com.
Neato Baby Music Time - Mark Anderson -- the steam behind the expansive Broken Poetry nights at Neato Burrito -- aims on bringing a regular rotation of live music to Neato, with his weekly Neato Baby Music Time, which kicks off with singer-songwriter types Liz Rognes, Andrew Taylor and Angela Salmon, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, at Neato Burrito, 827 W. First Ave. Cost: Free, all ages welcome.
Ocean - Considered one of Spokane's must-see up-and-coming artists, DJ, producer and beatsmith, Ocean is releasing another studio set of ill thrills, called "Black Ceiling," with support from Ayo.Dot, Freetime, Jaeda, Vibeself, DJ Stone Tobey and DJ Forcefield at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at Mootsy's, 406 W. Sprague Ave. Cost: $5.
Kari Marguerite - Acoustic soul singer with tinges of jazz and pop, Kari Marguerite holds it down on the terrace as the Summer Concert Series continues at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at Rocket Market, 726 E. 43rd. Cost: Free.
Memorial for Brent Miller - Local experimental band, Monuments, leads a memorial effort for close friend Brent Miller and fund raiser for U.T.F. Skate Park, with Belt of Vapor and Soul and the Machine at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at The Globe Bar and Grill, 204 N. Division St. Cost: $5.
