Whammy Wednesday - DJ Deseure is packing her bags and heading out of town for graduate school, but before she goes, Spokane's queen of rare groove records is getting a Whammy Wednesday-style send off, featuring rotating DJs Supervillain, Breezy Brown and her Royal Badness, DJ Deseure, spinning vintage jazz, funk, soul, R&B, reggae and hip-hop, starting at 9 p.m. tonight, July 28, at The Seaside, 230 W. Silversun Pickups - Their last album was darker, filled with haunting strings and plastered with overdubs. Now Los Angeles indie-rock quartet Silversun Pickups is back on the road and bringing the heat. In the live show, the strings and layerings  have mainly been replaced by rich synth riffage. Here it live when the Silversun Pickups arrive at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 30, at The Knitting Factory Concert House, 919 W. Sprague Ave. Cost: $24.50 in advance, $36 at the door.

 

Reverend Horton Heat - Punk rock and rockabilly hits the fan when Jim Heath, aka The Rev. saddles up with his signature Devil-may-care attitude and scorching live show at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1, at The Knitting Factory Concert House, 919 W. Sprague Ave. Cost: $17.50 in advance, $21 day of show.

 

The Ataris - Indiana punk-rock outfit The Ataris are hyping up the blogosphere with their new record, "The Graveyard of the Atlantic." Check out the power-pellet punk sounds in low-fi fashion when quartet comes to town to revitalize 8-bit aggro-rock. Also on the bill are powerhouse locals Small Town Nation and The Toy Garden, at 8 p.m. on Friday 30, at Empyrean Coffee House, 171 S. Washington ST. Coat: $10.

 

Sara Jackson-Holman - Part-Spokane-part-Bend Oregon singer-songwriter and pianist Sara Jackson-Holman scored a record deal with the same Portland-based label that launched Blind Pilot. Now she's back, playing songs from her new record, "When You Dream," at a show starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, at Empyrean Coffee House, 171 S. Washington St. Cost: To be announced
