Here's this week's top five club picks from The Som Show, as appears in the Entertainment Spokane weekly e-newsletter (sign up).
Sara Jackson-Holman - This Part-Spokane-part-Bend, Ore. pianist and singer landed a record deal with Expunged Records the easy way. She left a comment on Blind Pilot's Myspace profile praising her new favorite band. The Portland folk group's label president randomly clicked on the comment and found his way to Jackson-Holman's music profile. Now the 21-year-old Whitworth University student is celebrating her debut album with a CD release party at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, at Empyrean Coffee House, 171 S. Washington St. Cost: $7, all ages welcome.
Chimaira - One of Cleveland's finest, Chimaira is releasing new DVD this month with more than 7 hours of content, including performance footage shot in HD, home video clips and a 17-track live concert CD. The DVD, "Coming Alive," comes out in July, but you can catch the heavy metal sextet in the flesh on Monday, July 5, at The Seaside, 230 W. Riverside Ave. Cost: $12 in advance, $15 at the door. All ages welcome.
B-Radicals - One of Spokane's favorite funk and jam bands, the B-Radicals are finishing up their monthlong Seaside residency tonight in a special Som Show Presents video shoot. Come get caught on camera at 9 p.m. tonight, June 30, at The Seaside, 230 W. Riverside Ave. Hula hoops welcome. Cost: $3.
Mark Ward - The last time Mark Ward appeared on the patio at Rocket Market the local singer-songwriter rocked it. Well, he rocked as hard as a guy with an acoustic guitar possibly could. And the place was packed. Get there early if you want a table when Ward returns to The Som Show Patio Party at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, at Rocket Market, 726 E. 43rd. Cost: Free!
GBH - Punk legends GBH are 30 years in the game and still bringing the ruckus, with a new album in tow. And it's as angst-ridden as ever. Bow down to UK punk rock royalty when GBH plays back-to-back shows starting with an all ages set at 7 p.m. followed by a 21-plus show at 9 p.m., both on Friday, July 2, at The Seaside, 230 W. Riverside Ave. Cost: $10 for each show.
