Here's this week's top five club picks from The Som Show, as appears in the Entertainment Spokane weekly e-newsletter (sign up).
Owl City - Adam Young's Owl City project went viral with a slick synth-pop electronica sound. And the momentum doesn't seem to be slowing any time soon. Owl City has clocked 6 million profile views and 25 million plays on Myspace. His "Ocean Eyes" album went gold and the "Fireflies" single is certified platinum. His 2009 national tour was completely sold out and this current tour is looking to do the same. If you were in attendance at Owl City's sold-out show last fall in Spokane, you know to expect full-band accompaniment with strings, synths, live drums and guitar and a genuine good time. It happens again as Owl City plays a sold-out concert at 6:30 p.m. tonight, March 31, at The Knitting Factory Concert House, 919 W. Sprague. New Originals - Now here's an art show you don't see every First Friday: The New Originals: Collections, Champs, Champagne brings together the personal art collections of a group of like-minded individuals, with a multi-genre mix of live music, where bands -- everything from rock to rap -- will take turns playing the center of a boxing ring. The event, which benefits Community-Minded Enterprises -- also is a local debut for the night's featured artist, Jeremy Vermilion. Overload your sense with the sights and sounds in a truly unique environment at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at Spokane Boxing, 1826 E. Sprague Ave. Cost: $5 suggested donation.
WigBash - Over the years The Wig Fits All Heads has been many things to many people -- a web site, a PR firm, a booking agency, and a management company. All the while it's been reliable for bringing the annual Wig Bash from Seattle to Portland. This year's WigBash Spokane sees the expected return of Shim, along with Space Opera 77, The Globes and Paris Spleen, at 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, at Sunset Junction, 1801 W. Sunset Blvd.
The Makers - Local glam rock legends The Makers made it an annual affair to tear down the ceiling at the old beloved B-Side, so it's only fitting that The Makers bring it back to the former home of the B-Side and current location of The Blvd. It'll be just like old times when The Makers headline a show with Magnafluxxx and The Blowouts at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at The Blvd., 230 W. Riverside Ave. Cost: $10, 21 and older welcome.
Red Head Bash - Celebrating all things carrot topped, the Red Head Bash puts a tongue-in-cheek spin on WigBash with a show that features a diverse lineup of folk, blues, and prog rock, with Hey Is For Horses, Whiskey Dick Mountain, and Imperial Sparks, at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at Empyrean Coffee House, 171 S. Washington St. Cost: TBA.
