Here's this week's top five club picks from The Som Show, as appears in the Entertainment Spokane weekly e-newsletter.
Anvil - It sounds a lot like the Spinal Tap story, except that the misadventures of Canada's aging metal band are all true and documented by an ex-roadie turned Hollywood player in "Anvil! The Story of Anvil." The documentary gave Anvil a new lease on their rock 'n' roll lives and won the hearts of critics and fans. Anvil is coming to Spokane as a part of its first national tour in more than a decade. The Anvil Experience drops at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, at The Knitting Factory, 919 W. Sprague Ave. Cost: $16.
Natural Selection - Lots and lots and lots more metal is coming to The Knitting Factory this week, and all of it is local. First up are featured acts are Natural Selection, Grounded, Nothing To Gain, and Megan Cuts Herself. It will be a hardcore smackdown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 5, at The Knitting Factory Concert House, 919 W. Sprague Ave. Cost: $5 in advance, $7 day of show.

The Slants - Dubbed a Chinatown-dance-rock band, The Slants boasts a lineup of members that are all Northwesterners of Asian decent, but their sound is decidedly British, despite their playing sold-out anime conventions all over the map. Confused? Check it out when Portland's The Slants arrive at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, at Empyrean Coffee House, 171 S. Washington St. Cost: To be announced.
