Washington St., hosts its grand opening celebration at 7 p.m., tonight, January 13. Cost: Free. (Check the video panel for footage of Henry Nordstrom's performance with Kaylee Cole at the last night of music at the original Empyrean.)

Hillstomp - Sunset Junction boasts a pair of back-to-back touring acts starting with Portland bluegrass punk duo Hillstomp headlining a show with local gothic-blues and punk outfits The Dearly Departed and Whiskey Dick Mountain. Dig it at 9 p.m. on Friday, January 15, at the new-and-improved Sunset Junction, 1801 W. Sunset Blvd. Cost: $5.

Lower Lights Burning - For more touring two-piece rock at Sunset, check out regional indie-folk duo Lower Lights Burning, which is supported by Spokane indie-jazz-pop band Mon Cheri and indie band Le Train Train Quotidien, at 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, at Sunset Junction, 1801 W. Sunset Blvd. Cover is $5.

Deseure - Spokane's queen of old school and rare groove vinyl, DJ Deseure makes her Whammy Wednesday debut tonight at Sunset Junction in a special Som Show presents installment of Whammy Wednesday. That's tonight at 9 p.m. at Sunset Junction, 1801 W. Sunset Blvd. Cost: Free.

Cool Cool Universe - A slew of local all-ages bands - including Cool Cool Universe, Act One Scene One, Good Kids Bad Ideas, Pretty Arcade and Rain on My Parade - are vying for an opening slot for the upcoming Bowling For Soup concert in February at The Blvd. That coveted slot will be awarded to the band who gives the best performance at a show that starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, at The Blvd., 230 W. Riverside Ave. Cost: $7, all-ages welcome.
