Big thanks for everyone who came out for the 10.10.10 Hip-hop Collab. It was a blur of a blast.

Check the video panel for footage of the maiden voyage of organic hip-hop project, Flying Spiders.

Aside from yours truly on the mic, the lineup consists of an all-star roster of players -- drummer Vinnie Nickeloff (Vax Lavala), violinist/vocalist and photographer Rajah Bose, guitarist Pistol Pete Johnson (The Longnecks), bassist Armando Arguello (Jupiter Effect, Son Dulce, The Longnecks), saxophonist Sparky (The Groove Patrol, Son Dulce), singer/keyboardist Jamal Ali, flutist and auxiliary percussionist Eddie Taylor III (Soup), and pianist/vocalist/auxiliary percussionist Twee (aka Thuy, the author of multimedia novel The Truth Lenders).

Words can't express how honored and grateful I am to be supported by this cast. It's been a long time in the making and I'm proud and excited of where it's heading. Vinnie and I have been talking about this project for close to two years, and the vision finally started to become a reality, starting with Rajah and Armando, this summer. We set the goal of playing 10.10.10 before the lineup was solidified (a little incentive goes a long way). Jamal and Pete have been in the band for almost a week, and last but nowhere near the least, Eddie's first practice was the show. The arrangements feature various instrumental combos depending on the song.

The songs in the video are "Rainmaker," and "Fadism." "Rainmaker" was co-written and produced by my Dead Casual cohort, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Atom Crowell. The second song, "Fadism," was arranged and produced by former Spokie, multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Hughes. The studio version of Fadism contains a sample by jazz great Ahmad Jamal. You can download it on the Inlander web site (Thanks, Leah!).

There's a bunch more links to 10.10.10 multimedia below, including a review on Check It Out Music. In it, Check It Out Andrea writes: "This is the new exciting fresh thing that Spokane needs in our scene."

The Spiders are planning more shows and collaborations as we look ahead to 11.11.11.

Thanks to Spokesman-Review multimedia producer Andrew Zahler for taking video.

Also thanks to Nicole Hensley for the Flying Spiders pic in the profile panel.

And thanks to Bad Penmanship and Astronautalis for sharing the bill and to Audio Affiliated's David Skaggs for doing a superb job providing sound.
