Check It Out Music posted a scandalous and detailed review of the Sommys.
Check It Out Andrea commented on the winners, the live music, and the party overall, from the Pre-Funk and the Limo-Bus, to the High Holies closing it out. And Check It Out Matt posted three pages of pictures from the night (some of them involving stripper poles).
In her review, Andrea writes, "It was a blast to have that many bands, artists, local scene-sters, fans and music lovers one room. People kind of put down their guard a little bit, drank, and had a good time."
Andrea also alluded to the scandal behind Mon Cheri winning Best New Artist of 2009 to sweep all of its nominated categories, including Band of the Year, Best Live Performance.
"Well, they did win a Sommy last year," Andrea.
I understand the confusion here and I thought this might be a good time to address it.
In actuality, Wayne and Caroline won BotY of 2008 last year, the trophy says so "Wayne and Caroline." If this makes better sense, Mon Cheri performed at the Sommys while Wayne and Caroline won the BotY.
Mon Cheri is the full band -- including charismatic bassist Kurt Olson and precision drummer Brandon Vasquez -- that used to be the singer-songwriter duo Wayne Caroline. MC played its first show as a full band in early 2009.
Thanks, Andrea, for the review, to Matt, for the pics, and to Trucker Dave, for the lap dance!
