The 1980s are so 2009.

With 2010 finally here, a peek into the pop-culture crystal ball reveals a revival coming in the new year of the decade that gave us The Simpsons, the O.J. Simpson trial, and the World Wide Web.

That's right, the 1990s are back.

With the 1980s revival well finally running dry ("Red Dawn," really?) The '90s rejuvenation has already got a head start on TV ("90210," and "Melrose Place") and more 1990s reboots are promised for the big screen this year with "A Nightmare On Elm Street" and "Predators."

Expect similar 1990s call backs in music with reunions from bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Sonic Youth, and Janes Addition. And while 1990s music is now the norm on "classic" rock stations, it's also hard to hit a karaoke bar without someone busting out Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back," or anything by the Spice Girls.

The revival makes its presents felt locally with two 1990s music shows happening tonight in downtown Spokane.

The nationally acclaimed "Sounds of Seattle" tour comes to the Knitting Factory Concert House tonight, featuring tribute bands playing the music of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog.

The Sounds of Seattle tour first launched in 2008 as a multi-band tribute rock festival with tributes to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana and more. This condensed version is highlighted by Pearl Jam Tribute Ten, who's members also play in the co-headlining Soundgarden tribute, Badmotorfinger.

Together, the two bands will also remake the legendary performance of the Pearl Jam/Soundgarden super-group, Temple of the Dog.

All proceeds from Ten releases benefit The Wishlist Foundation (www.wishlistfoundation.org) and supporting charities.

At the same time, locals Buffalo Jones, Kagah with St. Cule and Paul E will be performing various hits from disparate genres of '90s music -- including rock and hip-hop.
